Why Edo deputy governor, Shaibu walks out of Catholic Bishops Conference
Inside Edo
Auchi, Edo — The opening ceremony of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, held weekend at Auchi, took an unexpected turn when a protocol blunder nearly overshadowed the event.
During the formalities, the compere failed to recognize the presence of Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, who was seated in the audience.
Instead, the compere announced the attendance of Mr. Godwin Omobayo, who was notably absent from the conference.
The oversight did not go unnoticed by Shaibu, who promptly walked out of the venue, visibly displeased with the breach in protocol.
His sudden departure caused a stir among the participants and the audience.
However, after the intervention of several attendees, who urged him to return, Shaibu was eventually persuaded to resume his seat.
Governor Godwin Obaseki was not in attendance, neither was Omobayo who is facing a contempt charge at the Federal High Court, Abuja for masquerading as the state deputy governor despite a court order.
Despite the brief disruption, the conference proceeded as planned with the proper introduction of the Deputy Governor.
