Bendel Insurance defends Edo FA cup title

Benin, Edo – Bendel Insurance Football Club won the 2025 Edo FA Cup on Sunday night at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium after defeating Assemblies of God FC of Ekpoma 3-0.

Since 2019, the Edo FA Cup has been dominated by the 2023 Federation Cup winners. Vincent Akpikpi gave Insurance the lead in the 30th minute of the Edo FA Cup finals this year.

Before halftime, AG FC of Ekpoma, an amateur team, fought hard to stop Insurance from raising the score.

Coach Greg Ikhenoba made a double replacement at the start of the second half, replacing his finest central defenders Dennis Chigozie and Ugwu Emmanuel with Abel James and Promise, expressing confidence in his team’s capacity to win the cup.

Nevertheless, the Benin Arsenals kept applying more pressure to the Assemblies Boys, and it paid off in the 61st minute of play when Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi skilfully converted a penalty kick to give Insurance a two-goal lead.

Austin Ogunye was pulled down in their box by an AG FC defender, which led to a penalty kick.

After a spectacular delivery in the 73rd minute, Osahon Osobo finished the course by dribbling past two players after receiving a through pass from Meyinwa to score his second goal for Insurance in three games.

After travelling from Maiduguri to go to the finals against the Assemblies of God lads, who thrashed FC Delight 2-0 in the first semifinal match, the Benin Arsenals defeated the arrogant BJ Foundation FC 2-0 on Saturday night at the same Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.

In the meantime, Edo Queens defeated Fortress Ladies 3-0 to win the Edo FA Cup again.
