Obaseki administration detached from needs, aspirations of Edo people - Obahieme
Inside Edo
Benin, Edo – As Edo State inches closer to a pivotal moment in its political history, a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state Dr. Tony Obahieme has called for accountability in the governance of the state.
Obahieme, who insisted that the governance, leadership, and the future of the state is sacrosanct beyond political ambition said the state deserves better.
Assessing the eight years of the current government in the state, the chieftain said governance has been increasingly detached from the needs and aspirations of the people. He said the current government has failed to establish a meaningful connection with the citizens of Edo State.
A key issue highlighted by Obahieme is the financial position of Edo, stressing that the financial burden has only deepened the economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens.
Obahieme noted that the economic distress is compounded by a lack of genuine engagement with the populace—a governance style that has left many feeling disillusioned.
Obahieme also raised concerns over candidates being positioned as a political tool to further the agenda of the outgoing government.
He warned that it would be disastrous if the state continued to operate in the direction of the outgoing government.
Obahieme said the treatment of Edo’s royal heritage has not been fair as he alleged disrespect towards Oba Ewuare II.
Obahieme noted that his party carefully decided before choosing Monday Okpebholo as the flag carrier in the coming election, noting that Okpebholo remained a true representative of the people.
Describing him as “the man of the street,” Dr. Obahieme highlights Okpebholo’s deep connection with Edo citizens, his understanding of their daily struggles, and his commitment to improving their lives.
Okpebholo, he asserts, has been tested and trusted by the people and is seen as the leader who can restore hope and bring about the much-needed change in Edo State.
